Do you like traveling abroad, but staying in hotels do not satisfy you? Would you like to visit foreign countries and meet local people? Are you open minded and would like to share your ideas with others? Would you like to see how people in foreign countries really live? Do you think that if people know each other in person, it can improve the world? Do you think that communication with other people can overcome prejudices? On the other hand – would you like to provide hospitality to people from foreign countries?

If your answer to above questions is yes, then SERVAS is an ideal organization to fulfill your traveller’s ideas.

SERVAS s is an international peace association that works to build international understanding by establishing personal contacts.

As a member of Servas you have two options:

• Becoming a “Host”. As a Host, you basically provide on request of other members free accommodation for two nights. It can be very simple and travelers are used to bring sleeping bags. Your name, address, contact and other basic information are recorded in the Host List that is provided to SERVAS members from other countries. If you do not have accommodation possibilities you can be a Day Host and still meet travelers.
• Becoming a “Traveller“. You do not need to be neither a Host, or a Day Host and still can travel and meet Servas hosts in foreign countries.

Servas International

SERVAS is an international, non-governmental, multicultural association run by volunteers in over 100 countries. It was founded in 1949 by Bob Luitweiler as a peace movement.

SERVAS International is a non-profit organization working to build understanding, tolerance and world peace.SERVAS means “to serve” meaning “to serve to peace” in Esperanto language. Organization was originally calledPeacebuilders.

Currently SERVAS offers over 16,000 “open doors” all over the world in the most of existing countries. SERVAS is different from other similar hosting organizations or system (like Couchsurfing or Hospitality Club). It has long tradition, good organizational structure and adequate safety tools (like pre entry interviews, traveller stamps etc.). Therefore it is appropriate not only for independent travellers, but also for families with children.

Through SERVAS, travellers have opportunities to meet hosts, their families and friends, and join in their everyday life. Where convenient, hosts may offer two nights (or more) accommodation and invite travelers to share a meal.

Names and addresses of hosts appear in annually produced lists which are made available only to approvedtravellers.
