Servas Czech Republic

In early eighties, here in totalitarian former Czechoslovakia, Servas idea started to penetrate trough iron curtain. Few enthusiasts started to host travelers from the West. One of the first was Roman Branberger. He remembers that in the beginning they had to use conspiracy. As the secret police randomly read mail, it was not possible to refer directly to Servas in letters. So if somebody from the West wanted to come, he or she had to use secret code. The fall of the communist regime started the new era of Servas here.

There are in total about 120 Hosts in the Czech Republic almost from all regions. Nearly half is from Prague. By a host we very often mean a family and if we include travelers, it means that in total there are some 200 CzechServas members. For the key persons please refer to contacts.

In recent years, we have our annual meetings usually connected with a hiking trip.  It is organized in May/June and usually around 30 people attend.  For some pictures please refer to  photogallery (under construction…)
